The Kilmainham Gaol
Abandoned as a jail in 1924, this is jail is now a museum run by the Office of Pubilc works since the mid 1980's. This jail is famous for having imprisoned some of the most famous Irish revolutionaries who took part in the Easter Rising.
Prisoners included Irish heros such asJoseph Mary Plunkett, Eamon de Valera, Patrick Pearse and more. The only way to view the gaol is by a guided tour (which is a bargain 2 Euros if you're a student 6 Euros for adults). It is a very imformative one hour, and as you have probably noticed it isn't a very common tour - the only other jail tour I can think of is Alcatraz in San Francisco.
The Jail is located close to the Museum of Modern Art, The Guinness Brewery, and Phoenix Park. So make sure when planning your day plan these 4 trips in one go. This was my personal favorite in terms of tours in Dublin and I really recommend it for anyone, who plans to visit the city any time soon or in the distant future.
